OUR Story
After over a decade in the non-profit sector, Fearless Spaces founder Coniqua saw a critical need. Many mission-driven and impactful non-profits struggled internally with conflict, unsustainable infrastructures, and limited capacity. They often lacked the knowledge to build effective teams and create workplaces that truly reflected their values.
Coniqua also observed that founder-led and BIPOC-led organizations faced unique and nuanced challenges distinct from other institutions. Through her experiences in mediation, training, and organizational development consulting, she recognized that these leaders needed more than just advice—they needed a partner to help them build healthier communities, facilitate leadership development to their teams and, dismantle systems of oppression.
Meet the Founder
Coniqua Johnson-Reed, M.S.
Coniqua's journey began early. From a young age, she embraced audaciousness, allowing her passion to drive her career. As a teen advocate, she championed causes with Planned Parenthood and the New York Civil Liberties Union, focusing on comprehensive sex education, the school-to-prison pipeline, and LGBTQ+ rights in schools. This early start set the stage for a remarkable journey. Her talents did not go unnoticed, as she lent her expertise to state and local elected officials, supporting their offices and shaping policies that resonated with the hearts and minds of the communities they served.
But she is more than just a professional; she is a visionary. Her passion burns brightest when championing the voices and endeavors of Black individuals, pushing boundaries, and demolishing barriers in pursuit of a more equitable world. Her approach is rooted in the unyielding principles of anti-racism, fostering environments where diversity thrives and courageous conversations flourish.
It was actually Coniqua's own transition, driven by an inadequate ability to resolve conflicts, that inspired the creation of Fearless Spaces. Thus, Fearless Spaces was born. This consulting practice is dedicated to empowering non-profits to overcome internal challenges, fostering environments where their values are lived out daily, and supporting BIPOC leaders in navigating their unique hurdles. By providing the necessary tools and guidance, Fearless Spaces helps organizations not only address the inequities in the world but also become fearless leaders in their pursuit of justice and innovation.
